Christ Methodist Church of AuburnTony's Tidings This past Sunday in worship we celebrated the sacrament of baptism of Bennett Beasley. Baptism is one of my most cherished aspects of worship! As a church family we pledge to nurture the person being baptized as well as each other in the ways of the Christian faith and life. We have a front row seat (or 50 yard line/mid-court seat) as a vital participant of one’s initiation into Christ’s holy church. Through the transformational act, we are offered the free gift of God’s grace and incorporated into God’s mighty acts of salvation and given new birth (new life) through the water and the Holy Spirit.
Following the baptism, I look forward to walking the child through the congregation for everyone to get a close look at the person to whom we are pledging our love and care and making a promise to live that they may grow in the knowledge and love of God. In making this pledge, we aspire to orient our lives after Jesus to exhibit faith, hope and love to the world around us. We can only do these things consistently through the power of the Holy Spirit at work in our daily lives.
As the choir sang the baptismal response and I walked through the congregation with Bennett, I could feel the joy and excitement spreading as we set our eyes upon a new disciple of Jesus! We all need those reminders of the emotional and spiritual response that filled our lives when we said YES TO CHRIST! Bennett is an amazing two year old child, but just wait and see how the love of his church family and the power of God’s Holy Spirit will strengthen him to live out the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
We close the sacrament with the blessing asking God, who has called us to eternal glory in Christ, to establish us and strengthen us by the power of the Spirit to live in grace and peace. A baptism does more than celebrate something here and now, with prayers and water and a family party after; it is nothing less than an investment in the future of the Church. It is a group of people coming together to say, “I believe” — and a profession of a desire to be the salt and light of Christ as we profess Christ Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
I am excited about this Sunday for worship as Brother George will bring a good word from Psalm 126. Also, be on the lookout for information as we are on the doorstep of fall ministry programming and a new round of discipleship, missions, worship, and music opportunities for people of all ages to connect with CMC and grow in our faith!
In Christ,
Pastor Tony

Worship Service, Sunday, July 28
We look forward to joyfully worshiping with you at another inspiring worship service this Sunday, July 21, at 9:30 a.m. at Lee-Scott Academy! Our wonderful Pastor Emeritus, Dr. George Mathison, will be bringing us our message this Sunday. His sermon is entitled "An Active God" based on Scripture from Psalm 126:3, and will tell us how God is doing great things for us and how we are filled with joy." Please come and help us welcome Brother George! The Voices in Bronze Handbell Choir will be playing two lovely pieces sure to warm your heart. The first is an arrangement of the beloved hymn tune, "Amazing Grace," arranged by Dennis Robert which combines piano with the handbells. The second piece incorporates two cherished melodies, "Blessed Assurance" paired with the iconic "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" masterfully arranged by Cynthia Dobrinski.
The Christ Methodist Chorale will also sing a powerful anthem by Mary McDonald entitled "Only God." It references the many things that are only possible through the hands of God. It's text is so powerful and such a reminder of who God is; "Only God is the power, only God is majesty! Only God will reign as King forever, only God! God Almighty, most Holy wise God. You are the power and the glory, O God our God! Only God can move a mountain, only God, our God!"
Join us on Sunday and experience the power of God in worship together!
Please invite your friends to come and be a part of our Spirit-filled worship services. Come and be blessed! We look forward to celebrating with you on Sunday! 9:30 Worship and 10:45 Sunday School for all ages! |

Music Ministry
PIANIST RANDALL ATCHESON IN CONCERT ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 18, AT 7:00 P.M. AT TRINITY METHODIST CHURCH, OPELIKA ALABAMA Internationally renowned pianist, Randy Atcheson, will be featured in concert on Sunday, August 19th, at 6:30 p.m. at Trinity Methodist in Opelika. The concert is sponsored by Christ Methodist Church in cooperation with Trinity Methodist benefitting the Stegall Seminary Scholarship Foundation. The Stegall Seminary Scholarship Foundation was founded in 2007 in honor of Dr. Karl Stegall. The Stegall Seminary Scholarship Foundation has a two-fold purpose:1. To encourage more young men and women to enter church-related vocations 2. To provide financial assistance for seminary students and Course of Study students.
Here is a link for the Stegall Scholarship Foundation website....
Randall Atcheson, a well-known pianist in New York City, is a native of rural Chilton County. His father was a bi-vocational minister who served small membership churches in areas around Clanton and Maplesville when Randall was growing up. When Randall was only 12 years old, his parents enrolled him for music lessons at what is now the School of Music at Samford University. After graduating from Chilton County High School and Samford University, Randall enrolled at the Julliard School of Music in New York City. Randall holds the distinction of being the only graduate of Julliard who ever received Masters degrees in both organ and piano from that prestigious institution. Following his graduation from Julliard, Randall chose to remain in New York City where he performs in concerts and accompanies nationally known soloists. He is a Steinway artist and has recently been recognized as their “Steinway Teacher of the Year.” Randall has played on multiple occasions for Presidents of The United States as well as for First Ladies. This past December, he performed his 15th concert at Carnegie Hall. He has also played several times at Radio City Music Hall, as well as the American Embassy and Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Randall was honored to have been invited to play for the funeral service for Reverend Billy Graham that was held in Charlotte, North Carolina. Randall knows his audience and what they want to hear. In light of this, he plays a wide variety of music. He plays familiar gospel songs and hymns such as “I’ll Fly Away,” “When We All Get to Heaven,” “When the Roll is Called Up Yonder,” “Revive Us Again,” “Majesty,” “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee,” and “Crown Him with Many Crowns.” One of his most popular medleys is a patriotic medley that includes “Air Force Hymn,” “Marine Hymn,” “Anchors Away,” “The Caissons Go Rolling Along,” and “God Bless America.” Come hear this popular Christian pianist who has played for farmers in the smallest county churches of rural Alabama, as well as for Presidents and First Ladies in some of the largest cathedrals in the world. Ministry SafeA Required Training for Volunteers with Children, Youth, and Vulnerable Adults To ensure the local church remains a place to allow for people to make disciples of Jesus Christ who worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly, it is vital that the safety and protection of children, youth, and vulnerable adults be a top priority for every congregation within the Global Methodist Church and for Christ Methodist Church. We have resources available to include a comprehensive safety system that incorporates awareness training, a library of videos and print resources, policies and procedures, and monitoring and oversight. Local church leaders and volunteers are trained to recognize and respond to signs of abuse and misconduct. With this knowledge, congregations can empower their members to be vigilant, prevent abuse by creating a culture of responsibility, and when necessary, remove and hold abusers accountable for their actions. By implementing thorough background checks, churches can do all in their power to ensure that only individuals with a clean record and a heart for ministry are allowed to serve in positions working with children, youth, and vulnerable adults. If you are interested in volunteering with children, youth or care ministry for homebound vulnerable adults contact Sherry Roby for more details on how to train and have a background check. Parking on Sundays
Parking Attendants Needed The Parking Attendant Team is a group which assists with parking needs on Sunday mornings for the 9:30 service and also for special services such as the Star-Spangled Spectacular concert and Easter when there are larger than normal crowds. They meet at 8:45 on Sunday mornings in the back lobby of LSA and are finished in time for the service. Please call the church office at 334-209-0074 or click on the link below if you are willing to serve on this team on an occasional basis. We would like to have four each Sunday morning, but need more for certain occasions (SSS, Easter Sunday, etc.) The Parking Attendants have a suggestion for those who need to park close to the building for mobility reasons. If you cannot find a place near the back entrance, use the parking lot on the rear left (next to the gyms, across from the football stadium). The door to the auxiliary gym will be unlocked and you may proceed through there to get to the main gym. Beginning this Sunday, there will be a table with bulletins and hymnals for worship at this entrance. Another option is for you to drive to the back breezeway entrance and after you exit your car, a parking attendant can park your car for you. The attendant will return your keys to you or if you prefer, they can keep the keys so that they can retrieve your car after the service and meet you at the back breezeway again. We are discussing more alternative options that will make getting into the gym easier for those with mobility issues. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Announcements

We would like to begin mailing them a copy of our email. If you know of someone who would like the weekly Newsletter mailed to them, please let us know. Let's continues to make is a habit to check the Connect Cart and tables as you enter the lobbies for worship each Sunday. In addition to hymnals, we have guest name tags as well as regular name tags for regular attendees who forgot theirs (Pastor Tony appreciates those as he learns everyone’s name).
